Treatment overview
Broad Band Light is a patented technology engineered to deliver consistent and safe intense pulsed light (white light) to target discolorations in the skin. Blood vessels that become permanently dilated present clinically as: redness, spider veins or “broken capillaries”, angiomas, spider nevi. These can be cleared or improved with a series of treatments.
BBL gradually reduces and can clear pigmented lesions or “brown tones” such as freckles, sundamage pigment, blotchy brown patches from chronic sun exposure (Poikiloderma), and general dull skin tone. UV exposure generally creates new pigment, even in skin that is well protected from the sun. This is why effective sunscreen, lifestyle modifications (UV avoidance, protective clothing and hat/sunshields) and maintenance BBL sessions 1-2 times per year are still needed. Enlarged pores, fine lines and rough skin are also improved as maintenance is continued.
Note about vascular birthmarks:
Red birthmarks such as Portwine Stains and hemangiomas, especially in the pediatric population should be assessed by a sub-specialized Dermatologist. The pulsed dye laser therapy the standard of care for these birthmarks, and is covered by OHIP when the patient meets eligibility criteria. More information can be learned about PWS by visiting www.birthmark.org
How it works
During a BBL treatment white light is “filtered” and precisely controlled so that only certain wavelengths of the light spectrum are delivered, depending on what structures are being targeted in the skin. This is why there are multiple passes and different levels and techniques used throughout the face; the enhanced BBL programs used at SKin Phi are the culmination of decades long experience in laser and light expertise and unique access to master class advanced trainings. We incorporate the BBL Forever Young protocols with our own custom tailored combination therapies, so our patients get holistic and enhanced treatment plans for a lifetime of healthy and ClariPHIed skin!
Results
Red and brown tones are gradually reduced over a series of 3-4 treatment sessions done monthly. You get a glowing even complexion and will wear less concealer and foundation! The brown tones, or pigment from sun damage undergo the most dramatic change in the first 1-2 treatment sessions. Redness, spider veins and textural improvement are reduced and improved (sometimes cleared) over the subsequent sessions. This is the single most effective procedure our patients do to improve the quality of skin and literally REVERSE AGE the skin cells. Stanford University proved this in studies completed several years ago; that the gene expression of BBL treated skin cells can be “switched” and show genetic markers (longevity, tumor suppression, etc) that are more typical of our YOUNGER AND HEALTHY SKIN CELLS. Science and laser nerds can read more about this in the published research about Gene Expression and BBL Forever Young here

Treatment overview
The immediate and longterm effects of skin tightening and firming with red/infrared pulsed light is well documented. Patients enjoy seeing the instant skin firming effect of being SkinTytened, and with continued maintenance will enjoy the benefits of regular collagen stimulation. The biggest advantage of SkinTyte treatment is it comes with NO downtime and NO discomfort. NO anesthetic needed prior to this treatment and is safe on all skintypes, as well as being safe for tanned skin (although we NEVER encourage real tanning on the face- this kills collagen!)
Red light therapy is also evidence based to have anti-inflammatory effect on tissue, which is why it may be helpful for conditions such as hair loss and thinning.
DivaTyte or D-Tyte is a simple and painless procedure that can improve the density of collagen and firmness of the labial area for women who are experiencing thinning and laxity of the vulva.
How it works
SkinTyte pulses are not “hot” and feels comfortable and soothing to most patients. Many passes are performed in the treatment area, which “bulk-heats” the deep dermal tissue for collagen stimulation and anti-inflammatory effect. Monthly treatments can be enjoyed for the face/neck, ask about the custom tailored programs for hair thinning and D-Tyte.
Results
The SkinTyte procedure results in instant “firming” up of the treated area that is visible, due to some immediate contraction of the collagen bed and mild swelling (the kind you would see from being in a hot bath or the sauna, and the face looks super smooth). The longterm effect of regular stimulation of collagen and anti-inflammatory effect of red light therapy is often in what you DON’T see. Premature wrinkles, laxity and crepiness can be prevented by maintaining a collagen and elastin stimulating program.

Treatment overview
The Moxi 1927nm fractional laser is revolutionary because it balances two important factors in deciding what rejuvenation treatment is right for you. Pigment, melasma, sun damaged uneven skin complexion, and enlarged pores are improved significantly. This is not unique to the Moxi laser treatment, there are many treatment options out there that can make skin glow and bright, but no other treatment can offer such dramatic results with such a pleasant recovery period. No more redness, swelling, burning or peeling for days or weeks. The Moxi consistently produces improvement for pigment and skin brightness, but allows you to carry on with your normal life activities such as work, social time and big events.
Moxi is also FDA approved for treatment of precancerous lesions, called Actinic Keratoses. This is unique to Moxi and the 1927nm laser wavelength, an easy and wonderful way to reverse damage, get healthier skincells and prevent squamous cell carcinoma!
How it works
The Moxi is effective to improve pigment, melasma, enlarged pores, sun damage blotchy skin within 1-3 treatments depending on the severity of the condition you present with. It is important to note that with conditions like melasma, maintenance is required no matter what the procedure or program you adopt. Skincare is tantamount when it comes to fading pigment and maintaining clear skin, with effective sun protection being the single most important factor.
Topical anesthetic cream is applied and the treatment takes about 30 mins. Moxi can be performed on the face, neck, chest, arms… anywhere you want to reverse pigment or sun damage.
Results
The skin will appear brighter and more evenly toned once all the MENDS (little microscopic dots of laser beam effect) have dried and sloughed off - this typically happens between 4-5 days. Some patients can achieve faster peeling with pre-treatment skincare strategies, and some patients peel slower. Neck, chest and body areas peel slower than the face.
Subsequent treatment sessions can be repeated at a monthly interval and continued improvement should be noted with each. Enlarged pores and texture improves over 3+ sessions from the collagen stimulation.
Recovery time
Most patients will experience 6-24 hours of redness, and mild to no swelling. Sunscreen and makeup can be worn the next day and used to coverup the MENDS as they darken up over 2-5 days until the peel occurs. The skin tends to appear “bronzed” under makeup, but most patients can return to work, social activities the next day.

Treatment overview
Acne is a multifaceted and complicated condition, part of normal puberty but often follows us into adulthood and beyond! To complicate things even more, some patients develop acne only as an adult (which is often associated with a type of Rosacea, not like the oily skin acne more common to teenagers). Identifying what TYPE of acne is the most important part of the puzzle, because prescription medications, treatment therapies and skincare are only as effective as matching them to your unique type and severity of acne.
Our approach to PuriPHIcation of acne prone skin involves a combination of topical, medical (where needed), and technology procedures where suitable.
How it works
The BBL Forever Clear protocol uses multiple passes with various filtered wavelengths of light to: “sanitize” acne bacteria, reduce the redness from active and/or healed acne lesions, and calm the inflammatory component of acne pimples and cysts. Customized skincare and BelaMD are incorporated to address “unplugging pores”, and prevent new comedones/control sebum production, and prevent discoloration of the skin from sun exposure.
The Morpheus microneedle RF can also help to calm and treat inflammatory acne, and help to stimulate collagen at the same time, so existing scarring is softened and less noticeable.
Results
Most patients experience improvement of acne lesion count as well as reduction in the inflammatory component of acne (less painful and bumpy) within a few treatment sessions. The exact number of sessions and treatment interval vary depending on your unique presentation, as well as individual lifestyle and schedule factors. We will collaborate with you to find the right combination therapy that best fits your situation. The combination therapy may include one of more of: skincare, partial or full BelaMD passses, BBL Forever Clear, Morpheus.
Recovery time
BelaMD and BBL Forever Clear do not come with any downtime, and require no topical anesthesia before treatment. Morpheus treatment may result in redness and swelling for a few days but no need to miss work or social activities. Skincare is essential to prevent post treatment complications and possible discoloration from sun exposure.

Treatment overview
The Q-Swtiched NdYAG laser is the gold standard for treatment of unwanted benign pigmentation, for all skintypes. Tattoo regret is something that is on the rise, and many people want to either remove or fade (for coverup ink inscription) tattoos.
Melasma treatment with the QSw1064 laser is one that is popular because there is NO downtime and no prep for the sessions. These are done weekly for 6-10 sessions and the maintenance is typically 1 treatment very 1-3 months later. Melasma tends to return to the surface, as the dermal component always “holds a memory”, and is triggered by sun exposure, visible light as well as heat, irritation, inflammation, or changes in hormone levels. We keep especially close tabs on our melasma patients, because the treatment regimen needs constant tweaking and adjustment depending on internal and external trigger changes and how they affect pigmentation on the skin.
Benign pigmented lesions such as moles and brown birthmarks do require evaluation by a Dermatologist first, we can arrange referral to one of our bridging dermatology practices for this screening. Age spots are treated using the QSw 532nm mode and they can be faded or cleared completely typically between 1-2 sessions. These treatments are best done in the fall or winter, when there is no tan and little risk of exposure to sun.
Note: Bumpy moles are best surgically excised or resurfaced with CO2 laser surgery; we will refer these patients to a specialised laser dermatologist for evaluation and possible treatment.
How it works
The Q-SW 1064 laser works to break up pigment (tattoo, melanin) by photoacoustic pulses. The energy is delivered in nanosecond domain, creating a “mechanical” impact which causes the pigment to be broken up into smaller bits that are carried away by the immune system. Number of treatments varies largely on the amount of pigment density and individual response to laser treatment, repeat sessions are done 2 mths later.
Q-Sw 532 mode laser is performed for age spots, or flat seborrheic keratoses. These tan-brown color lesions or “liver spots” are targeted and allowed to peel, leaving a faded or cleared area where the spot used to be.
Results
Tattoos fade gradually and cumulatively over 3-8+ treatment sessions depending on how dense the ink is inscribed and certain areas of the body clear tattoos faster than others.
Age spots usually fade or significantly clear with a single session. A second session is performed if there is partial clearance and some of the age spot is lighter but still visible.
Pigment that is spot-treated typically fades gradually over 3-8 sessions, treatments are once every two months. (Dermatologist evaluation pre-requisite)
Recovery time
Laser treatment of pigment and tattoos results in a few days of redness and/or swelling, possibly some localized scabbing.
There is no downtime for melasma treatment with the Q-Sw YAG laser, which is what makes it an easy maintenance therapy for keeping your melasma suppressed.
Age spots have an immediately “frosted look” and turns into a dark burgundy “bruise” for 5-7 days. The brown spot darkens as it dries up, and peels around day 5.

Morpheus8 is arguably the best fractional RF treatment that can help produce a smoother skin texture, firmer density of collagen, and more lifted vectors of the face and neck. This cutting edge technology gradually improves texture and tone over 2-3 treatment sessions, is safe on all skintypes, and can be performed on the face, neck, arms, abdomen, hands.
How it works
After topical anesthesia is applied to numb the skin, the Morpheus treatment takes about 45 mins for the full face. The entire face is treated with multiple passes at varying depths depending on what your concern is and your individual anatomy.
Results
Neocollagenesis (production of new collagen) takes the body 12 weeks to fully peak. Each Morpheus treatment will result in some improvement and will have a cumulative and gradual effect in lifting, smoothing, firming treated areas. There is growing data showing Morpheus8 treatments used for the indications of focal fat-sculpting, hyperhidrosis, active acne therapy... the science of Morpheus is beautiful!
Recovery time
While bruising is possible with any needle injections into the skin, the Morpheus does not typically require downtime where you need to take significant time off work. Some mild redness and swelling is normal for 1-2 days, some patients will experience more swelling than others. Sunscreen and makeup can be worn the next day. There are NO visible MENDS following this method of microneedle puncture, as the tip is made of 24 superfine pins that emit RF energy from the very tips of the needles. This means NO severe redness or grid-like brown dots needing to be camouflaged as seen with some other microneedle RF systems

The latest in parallel beam ultrasound for tightening and stimulation of collagen in the mid and deep dermis.
The Sofwave is a well tolerated treatment to saggy or collagen depleted areas of the face, neck. No sedation or other methods are required for aenesthesia, the ultrasound is deployed into the skin with many targeted passes to tighten the existing collagen bed, as well as stimulate new collagen fiber formation.
How it works
Using proprietary Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam SUPERB™ technology, ultrasound energy precisely passes through the skin’s surface (the epidermis), heating the mid-dermal tissue at just the precise depth and temperature to rejuvenate collagen fibers and improve the overall appearance of the skin.
Results
While there is some immediate tightening noted after treatment and in the early weeks following, optimal skin firming and lift is appreciated within 3 months of a single session for neck and mid-lower face laxity. It takes the body about 10-12 weeks to fully develop new collagen in the skin after a stimulating procedure like this or laser/RF resurfacing.
Recovery time
The Sofwave is truly a NO downtime procedure, no redness, swelling or peeling post treatment. Can be done on ALL skintypes and even during summer if there is an incidental tan.

Treatment overview
Microneedling is a proven method of stimulating new collagen production, improving circulation and healthy cell turnover. Treatment areas can include face, neck, chest, back of hands, and SKin Phi focused treatment programs for eye rejuvenation (crepiness, dark circles, and mild laxity of eyelids)
How it works
Topical anesthetic may be applied for increased comfort. Tiny fine needles in the DP4 Dermapen tip are passed over the treatment area to create microscopic punctures, like “aerating the skin.” The micro-wounds are quickly healed and replaced by new tissue and ongoing collagen stimulation. PRP or other therapeutics can be applied directly over the microneedled area, which allows temporary transdermal penetration.
Results
DP4 Dermapen is suitable for ALL skintypes since it is not laser or energy based, it does not pose any nigher risk of complications for darker skintypes. Improved skin tone and texture, including fine lines and crepey skin are noted with a series of treatments. Some evidence exists that this can also help with some types of melasma, and makes topical therapies more efficient.
Recovery time
The skin is pink immediately after treatment and will NOT be bloody or oozing post treatment, some patients experience swelling for 1-2 days. The skin will be dry and feel slightly rough like fine sandpaper. Sunscreen and makeup may be applied the next day, and extra moisturizing is encouraged for a week after treatment.
Treatment overview
PRP is evidence based regenerative medicine, using your own tissue to “donate” growth factors to areas needing repair, restoration, and rejuvenation. PRP can be used to improve skin tone, texture, stimulate hair follicles to grow, and improve pelvic health for women who are candidates for the OShot.
How it works
A small blood sample is taken with venipuncture, similar to when you have bloodwork done at the lab. The centrifuge spins your sample and harvests about 8mL of platelet rich plasma, which is rich in growth factor concentration. This is reinjected or infused into your skin or tissue, either with a needle or via transdermal delivery in conjunction with microneedling or another fractional energy treatment.
Topical anesthetic is used for some indications but not necessary for treatment in the scalp.
Results
PRP is a great adjunct to any fractional laser or energy based treatment, it enhances the collagen repair response and also speeds up healing time from any thermal procedures. A more even tone and smoother texture of skin is noted after a few treatment sessions, and dark circles under the eyes seem to improve consistently with PRP and microneedle combined therapy.
Hair loss and thinning are improved with 3-4 sessions of PRP injection to the scalp, and maintenance is typically done every 2-3 months.
The OShot is for women who would like a non-drug and non-surgical treatment option for improving orgasm (intensity and/or frequency), improvement of vaginal lubrication, improvement of mild urinary stress incontinence. Dr. Charles Runels developed the OShot protocol, and is the inventor of the original “vampire facelift” using platelet rich plasma. Dr. Runels continues to research new applications and further data collection related to PRP and regenerative medicine.
Recovery time
Normal activities can be resumed after hair loss treatment in the scalp, as well as the OShot. PRP treatment combined with microneedle of the face will be pink and swollen for 1-2 days as per the microneedle recovery time.
Treatment overview
Excessive sweating that affects quality of life (soaking shirts, wet hands, etc) can be managed by various modalities including topical and oral medications, iontophoresis, and in severe cases, surgery where sweat glands are excised. Injection of Botox is a safe and effective way of managing the condition for months at a time. This is a treatment that is covered by most private health insurance plans. Therapeutic Botox is a medication that has been used safely for decades, not only for hyperhidrosis, but for conditions treated in ophthalmology, neurology, and urology.
How it works
The most common area injected for hyperhidrosis is the underarms, this is a simple and quick procedure that is done without any anesthesia. Sometimes a cool air device is used for added comfort during treatment. The effective “sweat area” is determined by staining the area with iodine and starch, this shows where the active sweat glands are populated.
Botox typically has a temporary effect on the sweat gland, blocking the apocrine glands from being active for a period of 3-9 months. Every patient will have a unique longevity and dosage will be determined based on anatomy and individual response to treatment.
Results
Most patients stop sweating altogether within days of injection, while some patients stop sweating excessively but can manage the “normal” amount of sweat with regular antiperspirants. Some patients who suffer from generalized hyperhidrosis and cannot manage the symptoms may benefit from certain oral drugs.
Recovery time
The area might feel “tingly” for a few hours simply from the tiny needle pokes, but there is should be no numbness or “freezing” effect from Botox injections. Normal sensation returns as the skin heals from the injections, some minor bruising might appear, while some patients show no visible signs of treatment.

Treatment overview
Electrodessication is an effective treatment for removing unwanted skin tags, small age spots, white milia cysts, or other benign bumps on the face, neck or body.
How it works
A topical anesthetic is applied to numb the area being treated with E.D. Some lesions may need to be numbed with an injectable anesthetic if pain management is a concern. A very fine probe is applied to the unwanted lesions and the spot becomes puffy and pink immediately after the treatment.
Results
The goal of using E.D. for these lesions is to create a smooth skin surface where the bump used to be, most patients heal well from E.D. Followup evaluation is important as some lesions require a touchup or second session to completely remove the base of the lesion. Milia and small age spots can reappear or new lesions develop with age and time. Periodic retreatment is a common way to manage any new lumps and bumps.
Recovery time
Redness and some swelling is normal in the treated area for 2-3 days, then a crust or small scab may form which typically peels in 7-10 days. There should be no tan present at the time of treatment and sun exposure should be avoided for this and any treatment that has some inflammation afterwards.
