Lyne Fenton needs no introduction in Ottawa, I have known her and we have nurtured professional and personal respect for over a decade! She is not only a gifted nurse injector for over 15 years, she is one of those nurses that you wish cared for your beloveds. She also happens to be The One whom I trust to do my injections, so this should say it all. Since our New Year seems to be all about unwrapping good things, let's have a conversation about letting your best skin shine through!

There are still so many examples of brilliant Unwrapping we see, 3 years into doing BBLs the SKin Phi way (this means with many many bespoke layers of age-reversing light energy), and of course the magic of Moxi

Those are the bread and butter of reversing pigmentation and uneven skin-tone, revealing skin PRE-SUNDAMAGE and healthier cells. Lowering inflammation in the skin is the goal, and when we reduce redness and spider veins from rosacea, that is precisely what happens. We all know that less inflammation is the look of health. We see it all the time when people cut-out refined sugar and alcohol, one of the markers of lower inflammation is that the skin looks brighter and more glowy!

As I am writing this, I am still living the holiday highlight reel of cheese, cookies, and bubbly. So January is a great kick-off for clean-up time. The wonderful news about the skin, is that regeneration is entirely possible. And so is the body! So cheers to some of the things that kick inflammation in the behind: BBLs, good sleep hygiene, and build that muscle! 💪

The Simple Things

While wrinkle resurfacing is all together possible with very little downtime, the TIME we wait to see collagen remodelling using Morpheus8 or Sofwave (or other modalities such as laser surgery with ablative CO2 or Erbium resurfacing, which come with more down-time) can sometimes seem an exercise in patience (3 months or more to fully appreciate new collagen produced by the body healing response).

This before/after is a prime example of Needle Whispering your wrinkles by @nursesunnykim (and now @Lyninjectables). I used a special transecting cannula technique with Juvederm Volift to soften and take the edge off wrinkles. Nothing looks puffy, pillowy or fake, and you enjoy some improvement instantly - gradually improving to the optimally settled-in result within a month or two.

This outcome was thrilling for this patient, who cannot have down-time and wanted to see some gratifying results in a short time. Because of the cannula technique the recovery from the procedure was also very easy, little to no bruising. One month later, the Volift makes the skin appear more dense with collagen/elastin and bouncier. We don't need to erase every wrinkle on the face, that is not honouring the full life that has earned some of these wrinkles that come from lots of smiling and laughter. But to soften the crepey look and make the skin glow with more hydration and fullness is a beautiful thing.

Volift is a hyaluronic acid gel which works by attracting water molecules, it can give a long lasting (1-2 years) improvement to skin contour and texture. We naturally have hyaluronic acid in our dermal matrix of skin, in our joints, in our eyeballs, all over our bodies. It just makes sense why injectable hyaluronic acid gel looks and performs so naturally when injected expertly. The portfolio of Juvederm products (Volux, Voluma, Volift, Volbella and Skinvive) each have a place in restoring the appearance of lost subcutaneous fat, collagen and elastin, hyaluronic acid and other parts of the dermal matrix essential in giving it hydration and bouncy quality. Knowing where to use which tool is the key to giving you that undetectable rejuvenation that just looks like your glow from within!

In some cases, we can also use Sculptra injected to crepey and collagen-weak areas of the skin, but a series of sessions and 3 months wait time is needed to fully appreciate new collagen production.

The bottom line is, there is a spectrum of treatment options to help you achieve your skin goals: injectable hyaluronic acid (Juvederm or Restylane), injectable biostimulatory agents (Sculptra or Radiesse), or energy based biostimulatory procedures using laser, radiofrequency or ultrasound (1064 or 1927nm laser, long range infrared wavelenths BBL; Morpheus8, Sofwave). What is ideal for you is based on your unique anatomy, medical history, your timeline, your budget, and your personal preference based on all the education we provide you (and maybe some of your own research). We always want what is best for you, the best results clinically, and your happiest self. We like to think our 2026 is going to be an ERA of being a makerspace for Happiness!
