Happy August everyone! I hope you have enjoyed a few delicious moments of timeless sunsets and patio music already. The Sunday of summer has started and the last thing we want to think about is pumpkin spice and the impending season change! However, we have to start by highlighting a very special date in October this year...
Thurs October 8, 2026 is the first ever GLOW FORWARD fundraiser event. A fun filled fashion show celebrating some local boutiques such as Fashion United, Shop Vincent, Manhattan West, Schad, and Shepherd's Fashions.
Ticket sales for the event will go live August 10, you will receive a link to the event page in one week! The evening includes an amazing fashion show, prizes, auction items, a fund-a-need, and provisions by Working Title Kitchen @workingtitleottawa. All proceeds of GLOW FORWARD will go to support the Women's Shelters in Ottawa.
At the start of the pandemic I was home during the lock-down and heard a CBC radio interview with someone from Cornerstone Women's Shelter. After the initial shock and dismay, the following reaction was, "how can I help?" The statistics and reality of femicide, abuse or coercive control are sad and sobering. The sad truth is, many women and their dependents (children and sometimes family pets) cannot leave an abusive or dangerous domestic situation when there are lack of financial means, inadequate support in emergency or transitional times, and most of all, lack of awareness. Since it's inception 4 years ago, SKin Phi has supported Cornerstone Housing for Women, Harmony House (2nd stage transitional housing) and Interval House, each has such an important place in our community.
The vibe of community and inner+outer beauty has always been part of the SKin Phi Way, and we are so inspired by the wonderful humans in our own Tribe: The individual who started a non-profit Fairygodmother Ottawa charity to help girls get donated dresses and style advice so they can attend their prom; the woman who turned her book club into a luxury purse gifting movement for Christmas gifts to the women's shelter; the families that make legacy donations to so many local causes, and countless others who give their time, efforts and resources to support women and their dependents in need. Philanthropy is the art of making life beautiful ✨
In making this project a reality, the most moving sign of charitable sisterhood came from one of the shelter's executives. Francesca suggested that we also include two other smaller emergency shelters that I was unaware of, so they can all receive support from this event equally. The reality is, we need ALL those shelters. GLOW FORWARD will help these organizations in provide safe housing, children’s programming, counselling, outreach, and supporting women as they rebuild their lives:

Sofwave is like compound interest for collagen

While some patients saw some instantly gratifying improvements in skin laxity from Sofwave, the other success story is that they also appreciate the cumulative effects of producing long-term skin health and collagen stimulation. Biostimulation has become a catch phrase lately, and what better way to stimulate collagen than by a non-invasive procedure that has ZERO recovery time?
Somewhere after 3 treatments, so for some patients that would be 1-2 years after first starting Sofwave treatments, there seems to be a marked but natural rejuvenation to the face. It looks like nothing drastic has happened, but patients just feel "more like themselves". No filler distortion or dramatic post-surgical recoveries here. The appearance of firming or lifted simply means the soft tissue "fits the face better." The two things happening here are: contracting the existing collagen base from the repeated passes of high energy ultrasounds waves (this is sometimes perceived at 3-4 weeks post treatment) AND the creation of new and denser collagen/elastin in the dermis by fibroblast stimulation by the ultrasounds waves. The result is the denser tissue seems to draw itself in closer to fit the natural contours of the cheek, jawline and chin areas. Just the subtle tweak we would all like!
How do little things add up over time and become something exponentially significant? It's like the magic of compound interest! If we didn't have clinical photography to document "before's" and 1 or 2 or 3 years "after" we might even doubt what we perceive as "this person seems to be ageing backward". Meaning we remember what they look like 10 years ago, and while normal ageing changes are totally okay and natural, they maintain a look of health and wellness. They look restored from looking tired or stressed. I also think that many of our patients who retire from stressful careers, recover after an acute illness, or leave bad relationship also experience this kind of rejuvenation. It's proven that stress negatively affects your skin health. But those aren't necessarily things we can do for you in a 2 hour office visit. Sofwave...can do!
