Later this year I will be turning 50. That makes me reflect on the fact that, as Brene Brown says, I am “half-way to dead.” While it sounds rather blunt and sad, I am interpreting this alarm bell as…take inventory, organize yourself, redirect or reinvent if need be, and finish writing your STORY with deliberation and fierce intention. By the way, I surround myself with some of the most special people at SKin Phi. These ladies are all over 50. That’s why I’m not afraid of getting older, I have more wisdom and more spunk to look forward to. And they look effing amazing, so fear not. Age is literally JUST A NUMBER.
I love beautiful things. I love science and medicine. People have asked me about “Phi” and what is the significance in our clinic name. It’s the Greek mathematical symbol for the “golden ratio”, 1:1.6, or the geometric result of repeating Fibonacci sequence. What…you say? Phi basically looks like perfect geometric balance in art, architecture, design, nature, and in aesthetics. Mona Lisa, the Taj Mahal, the Apple logo, and so many examples in nature have PHI , read to learn more. Or next time you are visiting SKin Phi, I have this book on our coffee table!
Here’s the beautiful thing about SKin Phi, while we are all fascinated and attracted to natural PHI examples like a gorgeously designed building, the perfectly engineered eyebrow, JLo‘s face or Michelangelo’s sculptures… we all possess a beauty that is better than PHI. It is a unique work of art which can be enhanced by PHI principles, sure, but the inner and true self is what has been exquistely created. We just tweak it with some magic tricks like lasers, RF, ultrasounds, needles and skincare.
If you look closely at my lady-gang here, you will see we look SO different from one another. You can guess but I bet you won’t know who lets me do Botox on them and who doesn’t, who has filler and doesn’t, who has excessive sweating and needs hyperhidrosis treatment, and who was so shy in hiphop dance class that she needed some “dance-juice” to loosen up and move with courage! Hahha. The point is, all of this stuff we do for self-care and to look/feel our best is about celebrating what makes us special and different. THAT is the true super-power. If Botox and filler treatment is making you look the same as all your friends or the Housewives of NJ, I would seriously question your treatment provider or clinic….what exactly is their philosophy in practicing MEDICAL AESTHETICS? SKin Phi is all about making you look and feel Be-YOU-tiful. And sometimes self-care is gentle and soothing, check out this BelaMD demo that I did on myself before a big event…how to look glowy and regain some confidence after a stressful period in life!
I am super proud of the besties in my life (and if you feel you aren’t in a circle of love yet, come see us at SKin PHi- we do foster care for men and women who need to feel this kind of acceptance and safety). They are some of the smartest, fiercest, kindest and most fun people I know. They influence me, we are each other’s INFLUENCERS. Nurse in the City was inspired by my lady-gang, I wanted to share stories of people in my life who exemplify this inner and outer beauty and how I contribute to their self-care.
Please stay tuned for the latest Nurse In the City Story, which will be posted @nursesunnykim on Sept 5…. Another inspirational soul who serves her community, kills it in style and passion for life, and allowed me the honour of caring for her over the past several years.

Great post! Thank you!
The secret of who needed the "dance-juice" is safe with me! Love you, Sunny, and the beauty you bring to the world inside and out! 💕
